Itaewon is one of Korea’s tourist attractions that is most visited by foreigners. On every corner, you will not only find many restaurants serving tasty food, but also experience diverse cultures from different countries. Korea has a highly developed public transportation system, and this allows you to easily get to Itaewon by bus and subway. Today, we will introduce 2 options for how to get to Itaewon from Pyeongtaek without getting lost.
The first option is to take the bus. Let’s suppose you are starting from Pyeongtaek Station, Line 1 (dark blue line). Near exit number 1 of Pyeongtaek Station, there is the Pyeongtaek Express Bus Terminal. Here, take the express bus toward Seoul. A one-way ticket costs 5,300 won and the bus will take you to the Seoul Express Bus Terminal in about one hour.
Getting off at the terminal, take bus number 143 or 401 at the central bus stop located in front of exit 8-2 of Express Bus Terminal subway station (Line 9), which is connected to Seoul Express Bus Terminal. The bus fare is 1,200 won, and you can pay by transportation card (e.g. T-money) or cash. Take the bus and get off at Yongsan-gu Office, Crown Hotel, which is the fourth stop.
The second option is to take the subway. Let’s suppose you are at Pyeongtaek Station. From here, take subway Line 1 bound for Jije Station and continue until you get to Seoul Station. Alternatively, you could take an overground train from Pyeongtaek Station (e.g. Mugunghwa-ho, (ITX-) Saemaeul-ho, etc.)
Trains cost a bit more than the subway. However, they are faster and so we recommend this option. When you arrive at Seoul Station, go to Seoul Station Bus Transfer Center, located outside the station. From platform number 4, take bus number 421. Get off at the ninth stop called Itaewon Station, Bogwangdong.
Itaewon has attractions that are quite different from those of traditional Korea. Many people, especially those of younger generations, from all over the world visit. We strongly recommend Itaewon. It is worth the trip.
