
It’s time for basic Korean conversation for beginners, part 3! Here are some of the basic Korean sentences that are frequently used when visiting restaurants.
1. Yeong-eo menu-pan i-sseo-yo? [영어 메뉴판 있어요?]
It means, “Do you have an English menu?” You can say this when you ask for a menu in English.
2. Mae-wo-yo? [매워요?]

It means, “Is it spicy?” A lot of dishes are spicy in Korea, so it’s a good idea to ask whether or not the dish is spicy before ordering, especially if you have low tolerance for spicy food. It’s also a frequently asked question when visiting with family and asking if it’s okay for children to eat.
3. I-ge mwo-ye-yo? [이거 뭐예요?]

It means, “What is this?” When you visit a Korean restaurant, you might encounter some dishes for the first time. If there are only texts without any pictures on the menu, it is a good idea to ask what the name of the menu is.
4. Menu chu-cheon-hae-ju-se-yo. [메뉴 추천해주세요]

Meaning “Please recommend me a menu,” you can simply ask this question to receive assistance in choosing what to order.
5. Po-jang-hae-ju-se-yo. [포장해주세요]

This phrase asks for a takeout. It’s often used to have your food elsewhere outside of the restaurant.
