From August 1, 2020, the maximum size of standard plastic garbage bags in Pyeongtaek City changed from 100L to 75L. This aims to prevent injury of sanitation workers and improve their working environment. It is reported that safety accident cases of sanitation workers reached 1,822 over the past three years throughout the country. 15 % out of them occurred because of the overloaded 100L-garbage bags.
Since standard plastic garbage bags of 100L are heavy, they can lead to musculoskeletal and vertebral diseases. Considering this situation, to keep safety and health of sanitation workers, Pyeongtaek City suspended the use of plastic garbage bags of 100L.
The new maximum size of garbage bags is set to 75L. However, you can use and buy the bags of 100L until the current stock runs out. Moreover, from now on, the bags of 75L shall not exceed 19kg, and those of 50L, 13kg, respectively. For your information: the standard plastic garbage bags of 75L cost 1,880 won.
