In Korea, you can find a lot of warm street foods in winter. Here are some of the most popular choices! They are mostly sold at the entrance of subways and traditional markets.

1. Bungeoppang (Fish Shaped Pastry)

Bungeoppang is named after goldfish because it resembles one, not because it has fish inside! The filling is usually red bean paste, but more recently, some bungeoppang also have custard cream or pizza sauce inside. The price may vary depending on the size or the neighborhood but usually is around 1,000 won for three pieces.

2. Gunbam and Gungoguma (Roasted Chestnuts and Sweet Potatoes)

Gunbam and gungoguma are roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes. The aroma of roasting them attracts passersby on the streets. They used to be sold widely, but nowadays, they aren’t as easy to spot as bungeoppang. Gunbam costs 3,000 won for 10 to 20 pieces, and gungoguma costs 10,000 won for 5 to 6 pieces.

3. Hotteok (Sweet Pancakes with Filling)

Hotteok is a pancake made of flour batter with a sweet filling, such as sugar. The most common kind of filling is black sugar and cinnamon powder. Recently, you can also find hotteok with unique fillings, such as cheese or nuts. Each piece is around 1,000 won.

These are some of the delicious snacks to enjoy in the cold winter. Please, once again, note that the prices may vary depending on where you purchase them!

We highly recommend you to try these out when you find them on the streets!
