Safe Restaurant in Pyeongtaek: Seafood and Dumpling Stew at Buheung Garden (부흥가든)

When you are craving warm Korean food, haemul mandu jeongol (seafood and dumpling stew) is an excellent choice. At Buheung Garden, which is designated as a “safe restaurant” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, you can enjoy this stew filled with generous portions of seafood and dumplings. Although the redness of the stew may frighten some, you can choose the spicy level. “Jiri” is a mild flavor without any spiciness, “botong (regular)” is slightly spicy, and “eolkeun” is quite spicy, so please let the server know which level you want.

Haemul mandu jeongol is 19,000 won for two servings, 29,000 won for three, and 39,000 won for four. For 6,000 won more, you can add extra dumplings. In addition, the restaurant also offers a lunch menu and dongaseu (pork cutlet) and rice rolls for children.

When the stew is served, the dumplings are ready to eat, but the seafood still needs to be cooked a little longer. For that, start with the dumplings first. You can select from kimchi or meat dumplings: if you’re not a fan of spicy flavor, we recommend only getting meat dumplings. This is how you say it: “Kim-chi man-du mal-go, go-gi man-du-man ju-se-yo (no kimchi dumplings, meat dumplings only please.)”

After you are done with the large chunks in the stew, try fried rice with the leftovers. The bean sprouts are especially tasty with rice, so leave some while you’re eating the stew. As you’re enjoying the fried rice, the server will come and scrape the bottom of the pan. Koreans love to eat these crispy bits of fried rice!

Buheung Garden is open from 11:00 to 21:00 between Monday and Saturday. During weekdays, they have a break from 15:00 to 17:00. While parking is available, it’s not quite spacious. We recommend this restaurant for delicious dumplings.
