Must-Visit Japanese-style Tendon Near Pyeongtaek Station (Shokuji) 쇼쿠지

Shokuji is a restaurant famous for its Japanese-style tendon (tempura rice bowl) near Pyeongtaek Station. Shokuji means ‘meal’ in Japanese. The restaurant is quite small and can seat about 10-15 people at a time, and it is usually packed during lunch hours. It has an open kitchen and you can see them cooking inside, making it that much more trustworthy to eat and enjoy.

The best menus are tendon, pollack roe and beef rice bowl, and sakedon (raw salmon rice bowl). Other options include pollack roe and avocado rice bowl and fried shrimp rice bowl with sides such as croquette and chicken karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken).

Tendon is topped with shiitake mushroom, shrimp, laver, lotus root, egg, squash, eggplant, and chili pepper, which are all deep fried. These fried ingredients are crunchy on the outside and moist inside, which go perfectly with the slightly sauced rice. Make sure to enjoy your meal with the soup, pickled radish, ginger, and garlic that are served on the side with your order! They perfectly complement the greasiness of the fried ingredients.

Shokuji is open everyday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and it is located in the alley and doesn’t offer parking. However, it’s a short walk from Pyeongtaek Station, so taking public transportation is recommended!
