Nongak is a Korean folk art, a term meaning “farmer’s music”, that originally played a role in encouraging collective labor and getting in the holiday spirit.

In 2021, the Pyeongtaek Nongak Preservation Society will perform in May, June, September, and October at 3 p.m. in front of the Pyeongtaekho Arts Center's field. 


In June, the event will be held three times, which is on the 13th (Sun), 20th (Sun), and 27th (Sun). All performances will be proceeded with following the strict COVID-19 prevention measures such as wearing of masks, body temperature check, and hand sanitization. 


Pyeongtaek Nongak was first acknowledged when Eun-Chang Choi, the first Human Cultural Asset, formed a nongak team in 1958 and participated in the National Nongak Contest. The team won two consecutive championships in 1958 and 1959 for its outstanding performance. Furthermore, Pyeongtaek Nongak participated in the National Folklore Contest in 1980, and it was designated as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 11-2 in 1985 and was inscribed on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014. 



Pyeongtaek Nongak consists of sounds of Jing, Janggu, Drum, and Taepyeongso and various performances! During the event, a number of events have been prepared, so come out and enjoy the energic performances with your family!
