2021 Minyo(Folk Song) Performances in Pyeongtaek

Pyeongtaek Minyo(folk song) performances have been regularly held in front of the Pyeongtaekho Arts Center. Pyeongtaek minyo, the Gyeonggi-do intangible cultural heritage no. 48, has been recognized for its artistic value and musical excellence.

Pyeongtaek has been known as a city of rice farming as it has a relatively flat topography. Due to this reason, Minyo including dure-sori (farm song), bet-sori (boat song), and sangyeo-sori (funeral song) were well-developed in the city.

Minyo helped the efficient management of labor forces that were assigned to rice planting and weeding. The lyrics of Minyo depicts the entire process of rice farming, such as making paddies flat and even, planting rice, harvesting grains in the fall, etc.
