A traditional Korean food that you should try while in Korea is raw octopus (san-nakji). The raw octopus is chopped upon order so you can eat it while it still squirms around. Raw octopus is often introduced as a difficult Korean food to try because of its look. Despite the strange look, raw octopus is actually very savory and has interesting texture.  

You can try raw octopus at ‘Nakji Baksa’ in Pyeongtaek, which is also designated as a good restaurant by Pyeongtaek City!

Nakji Baksa offers an assortment of dishes made with octopus including grilled octopus (15,000 KRW per serving), octopus stew (15,000 KRW), raw octopus (20,000 KRW) and tang-tang octopus (20,000 KRW). Octopus over rice is offered as a lunch special and it costs 9,000 KRW until 3 p.m. and 10,000 KRW after 3 p.m.


The most popular choices are grilled octopus, raw octopus, and tang-tang octopus. Koreans often order them to enjoy with alcohol. The grilled octopus is a good choice for people who like spicy food. After eating the grilled octopus, people can mix rice with the remaining sauce to have another round of eating. In addition, raw octopus and tang-tang octopus are good for people who enjoy fun texture of food.
