Healthy Restaurant, Korean Food Level 1: Juk (Jukstory) 죽이야기

When Koreans get sick, many of them look for soft food. Most of the time, they tend to eat porridge called ‘juk’ made by boiled rice. The reason that Koreans like to eat juk is that it is easy to digest. The types and flavors of juk have recently become very diverse. Thus, many Koreans choose to eat juk for a light meal even if they are not sick. Today, we will feature a place where you can eat juk in Pyeongtaek city. It is called Jukstory located near Pyeongtaek City Hall. Jukstory has been selected as a good Restaurant, which is a place that received hygiene certification by Pyeongtaek City.

There is a wide range of juk options. The most popular menus are abalone porridge and tuna vegetable porridge. You can choose from many different types of juk such as ones with meats, vegetables or seafood. Prices range from 8,000 KRW to 18,000 KRW.

You can dine at the restaurant or order take-out. When you order take-out, you will also receive side dishes such as dongchimi (radish water kimchi), jeotgal (salted seafood), jangjorim (beef boiled in soy sauce), and kimchi. If you have leftovers, just store it in your freezer and then heat it up in the microwave later!

Jukstory Pyeongtaek City Hall branch is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is close on Saturdays. Try some traditional porridge that Koreans call juk whenever your stomach doesn’t feel good or you want a light and easy meal!
