What comes to mind when you think of Tong Bok Outdoor Market? Loud, chaotic, and bustling with people are a few of the words that immediately come to my mind. However, amidst the dozens of vendors selling everything from seafood to pajamas, you will find the quaint Vietnamese restaurant, YNhi.
The Kitchen is located outside the dining area creating a more intimate experience. The normal clanging of pots and pans that are typically heard in a restaurant environment are nowhere to be found. When I eat at YNhi, I feel as if I am eating in my own personal dining room. The ambiance is very warm and cozy and the decor gives the restaurant a homey vibe.
A large menu containing visuals can be found directly outside the entrance. These mouth-watering pictures not only make the ordering process easy for non-Korean speakers but they proceed to draw the customer into the restaurant. Let’s face it, whose mouth isn’t watering seeing these pictures?
I ordered the pho, fresh coconut water, a banh mi sandwich, and a durian dessert. The pho was piping hot and served with a side of cilantro and fresh mung bean sprouts. A variety of sauces are available at each table to add additional flavor (not that any is necessary). The durian dessert (not pictured) contained fresh durian fruit in a sweet milky liquid. Many people, including myself, are wary of trying durian due to the smell; however, I would highly suggest giving this dessert a try. Any apprehensions I ever had about durian were erased with that first bite.
If the food isn’t enough to entice you into trying YNhi, the prices should! A meal that size would typically cost roughly $20 USD in America, but I paid less than half of that. I highly recommend trying YNhi for the food and the experience!
