A Small Family Restaurant, 반가의 소반 [PIEF Foreign Reporter]

Have you ever wanted to try authentic Korean food? The restaurant 반가의 소반 is an excellent example of a small family run restaurant that has amazing food. The prices are inexpensive and the food is delicious. We had the Kimchi Giggei for our starter, which is a soup that is served boiling hot and uses Kimchi as its main ingredient. Because it is a soup the Kimchi is not as spicey and more nuanced flavors come out in the dish. I was still grateful for the side of rice to cool down my mouth a little. Kimchi Giggei is a popular dish in the cooler months because it warms you up and is Korean comfort food. I loved that our soup was heated right at our table!

For our main meal we ordered bulgogi, the Korean version of barbeque. Most bulgogi that I have eaten before has been sweet, but the bulgogi from this restaurant was savory and served with mug bean sprouts. I enjoyed the new flavor profile and there was enough to bring home left overs that we delicious the next day. Something I loved about this restaurant is the banchan, or side dishes were available at a bar so you could choose what you liked and go back for refills. My personal favorite is the fish-cake but there were a variety of dishes to try.

Parking is very limited in front of the restaurant, but there is a free public parking lot about a five-minute walk away. The 반가의 소반 restaurant is located in a walker friendly shopping area so you can shop for clothing, find some amazing Korean skin care, try a new dessert, or stop by a coffee shop after you’ve had lunch or dinner here. I love getting out into Korea and trying new things. Have fun visiting!
