Korean Words & Phrases Difficult to Pronounce

Are you currently a Korean Language Learner? Here at Pyeongtaek Insight, we want to let you in on a couple of Korean Language tips to help you on your language learning journey. One of the most challenging aspects that most Korean language learners can agree upon is Korean pronunciation.

During a conversation in Korean, a variety of words and phrases can be tricky. We’ve found some Korean vocabulary examples to help you better understand how to pronounce these specific words and phrases. The most commonly complex Korean Language pronunciation concepts are words with ‘supporting consonants (batchim)’ and ‘twin(ssang) consonants’ words. When dealing with words with supporting consonants, the final syllable position should always be noted and referred to when trying to pronounce them.

When pronouncing words such as ‘Chicken (Dak),’ ‘Many 많다(Man’ta),’ ‘None 없다(Eop’tta), ‘Young 젋다(Joem’tta), ‘Sit 앉다(An’tta)’, syllables almost all shift the next following syllable. Here are some commonly used ‘twin(ssang) consonants’ words: ‘Flower (kkot),’ ‘Strawberry 딸기(ttalgi),’ ‘Bread (ppang),’ ‘Rice (ssal),’ ‘Note 쪽지(jjokji),’ etc. These words all include tense consonants involving a rather harder and stiffer pronunciation.

’ can be compared to a ‘k’ sound, while ‘’ is like a ‘t’ sound, ‘,’ a ‘p’ sound, ‘,’ a ‘s’ sound, and ‘’ ‘j’ sounds. Though Korean is a fantastic language worthy of learning, it can have its challenging aspects like any other language. Did these pronunciation tips help you out?
