Torrential rainfall leaves Korea submerged underwater

Heavy downpour beginning on Monday evening (August 8th) has left many sinking amidst immense damages.

According to continuous reports yesterday, several of the greater metropolitan areas, including Pyeongtaek, were significantly affected, leaving subway stations flooded, water overflowing into businesses, and parking lot vehicles completely submerged, leading to high casualties. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) predicted that rainfall would continue until the 11th.

To all those who reside near a mountainous area or in an apartment complex near a river, please follow all necessary measures to ensure the safety of you and your family members. If you have a car parked in an underground parking garage, it is strongly recommended that you move your vehicle to a higher grounded area. Those with a daily work commute should bear in mind that roads will likely be blocked or heavily trafficked due to the continuous heavy rainfall and prepare in advance for any personally needed commute adjustments.

Severe power outages caused by heavy rainfall can also be likely to occur. To minimize the chance of electric shock-related accidents, stay away from rain-soaked electric cords & poles, and when experiencing any power outages, remain calm and keep your circuit breakers switched.

Please observe the following three steps to ensure everyone’s well-being and safety.

1. Do not approach any river areas where rainwater can be stagnant.

2. Station your vehicle in a safe area during slower rainfall in case of later-caused damage by any later heavy rain.

3. Make sure living quarters are protected and prepared to hold off damages from any intense downpour or landslide debris.

Here at Pyeongtaek Insight, we wish safety and protection to all our fellow citizens and residents.
