2022 TM4U Program (Traditional Market for USFK)

What is TM4U?

TM4U is a program designed for USFK service members and their families who are stationed in Pyeongtaek City to broaden and deepen understanding of Korean culture through hands-on experiences at a traditional market.

The issue of Pyeongtaek City’s lack of cultural infrastructures was raised continuously and a large percentage of USFK service members staying in their barracks during the weekends contributed to launching of TM4U. This program will give USFK service members and their families a chance to learn about Korean life, culture and history through their visits to a traditional market on Saturdays.

USFK service members and their families who take part in the program can contribute to vitalizing traditional markets and boosting local commercial areas. Pyeongtaek citizens and the USFK community will enjoy a much closer relationship through this program and it will work as an advanced model of civil and military relationship.

Introduction of Tongbok Market

Tongbok Market was first opened in the 1950s and as the largest traditional market in Southern Gyeong-gi Provincial Area, there are around 600 stores. In addition, they also operate a 5-day market (days that end with 5 and 0/ 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th).

There are many goods that can be found in Tongbok Market. For instance, they sell food (Korean, Chinese, and Japanese restaurants, snack-bars, etc.), ingredients (produce, seafood, livestock, etc.), clothing, shoes, and much more!

In other words, Tongbok Market carries almost all the products you may need!
