Pyeongtaek City has begun to actively promote the implementation of an advanced pet culture system by setting measures to prevent the loss and abandonment of pets and dog bite accidents.
The city announced on the 22nd that starting in September, an intensive crackdown search will be implemented in pursuit of unregistered pets, focusing on prominent locations which allow pet entrance and areas with frequent residential pet disruption complaints.
Animal registration targets pets aged two months or older who reside together in residential homes and semi-homes. Pets aged two months or older for companion purposes from other places register their pet at the 'Animal Registration Agency' within 30 days from the acquired ownership or registration date.
Additionally, if there is a change of pet owners (e.g., change in the pet owner's name or address) or the registered pet has become deceased, reportage must be made within 30 days from the date of the incident. If in the case of a registered pet becomes lost, it should be reported within ten days.
According to the current Animal Protection Act, those who have unregistered pets subject to registration or those who do not report any registry changes will be imposed a fine of up to 600,000 KRW and 400,000 KRW.
