Looking for the perfect spot to enjoy a date with your partner? I wholeheartedly suggest checking out "Hanchigak," a unique collaborative space nestled in Sinjang-dong, Pyeongtaek.
The term "Hanchigak" finds its roots in the realm of architecture. In Korean, it translates to "basic wood," and it was named with the aspiration that this collaborative hub would serve as the foundation for cultural endeavors. The café occupies the first floor of "Hanchigak," while the second floor houses an exhibition area and a workspace. Thanks to a clear signpost on the street, locating it was a breeze. The exterior boasts a charming and inviting ambiance, while the interior exudes a hip and stylish vibe, reminiscent of a foreign café.
An enticing item on their menu is the "Asai Bowl," a wholesome dish commonly enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack in Hawaii. I had the pleasure of trying the "Aloha Asai" variant, a delightful medley of bananas, strawberries, blueberries, coconuts, chia seeds, and granola blended with Asai puree. Its presentation was so captivating that I couldn't resist snapping multiple photos. The flavor was both sweet and refreshing, making it a fantastic choice to beat the summer heat.
While savoring the Asai bowl alongside my companion, we explored the cozy space. Although not overly spacious, there was an abundance of intriguing details to take in. As we conversed about the significance of the decorations, time effortlessly slipped away. While I longed to explore the second-floor exhibition area, I reluctantly postponed it for my next visit since it was currently in-between exhibitions. This space primarily showcases artworks centered around the history of Xinjiang-dong, and it also serves as a meeting place for volunteer activities involving teenagers and interactions with foreign tourists. The space regularly hosts exhibitions and one-day classes, inviting Pyeongtaek-based artists to contribute.
Sinjang-dong, home to "Hanchigak," holds a distinct allure within Pyeongtaek. As the memories of Songtan-si gradually fade into the annals of history, Sinjang-dong remains an enclave that preserves such stories. Its streets harken back to the 60s and 70s, maintaining the essence of an era past, including the alleyways in front of military units. I strongly encourage you to pay a visit and immerse yourself in this unique atmosphere firsthand.
So, why not consider "Hanchigak" as the ideal backdrop for your next memorable date?
