Creator’s Insight: Cafe Ssanghwa, A Cozy Haven for Warm Drinks and Foot Detox Baths to Beat the Chill

With the weather cooling, head to Cafe Ssanghwa to cozy up with a warm beverage while soaking your feet in a relaxing, hot foot detox bath.  Cafe Ssanghwa's specialty beverage, Ssanghwa Tea, is a detox tea and is served either hot or cold.  It is a thick tea with a sweet flavor and there is an assortment of seeds and berries floating at the surface.  This special tea is substantially pricier than other beverages at 10,000won to 10,500won but it is a hardy and filling beverage.  The drink menu also includes coffees, ades, smoothies, traditional teas, and fruit juices.  Favorites include the ginseng tea and the citrus smoothie!

The foot spa provides a small group of friends (up to four), or a couple, a quiet 40-minute period of relaxation while toxins are pulled from the feet!  The foot bath sends low-voltage charges to neutralize and attract negative toxins that then are supposedly released through the feet into the ionized water.  It is claimed that benefits reaped from foot detoxes include an energy boost, increase in immunity, ability to sleep better, and even minimized aches and troubles.  The discoloration of the water and the evidence of sludge are very visually alerting and may lead some to agree the foot bath truly helps to expel toxins from the body.

You can compare the color of the used water to classify potential  deficiencies that may cause the discoloration of the water.  Regardless of the impact of the foot detox on body cleansing, I personally go to enjoy a quiet moment where I am forced to sit and relax.  I look forward to continuing occasional visits during the colder months as the foot spa can increase one's internal body heat through the high temperature of the water.  A single foot detox is 12,000won with a 10-punch pass (three-month window) for 100,000won.

If you are not interested in the foot detox, you can still enjoy a cafe experience at Cafe Ssanghwa as the atmosphere is calming and the drinks are delicious.

Tips

1. Try the Foot Detox at least once.  If you enjoy the experience and plan to return often, invest in a three-month pass for 100,000won.  The pass includes ten visits that can be used by you and friends at the same time.

2. If you have a pass, challenge yourself to try a new beverage with each visit. It is expected that you purchase a beverage during your visit regardless of using the foot spa or not.

3. Take a view out the windows of the foot detox room, the garden is ever changing and it is fun to watch the produce grow.

4. Call ahead to schedule your foot soak (the owner speaks English but her assistant does not).

5. Wear pants that you can roll up above the calf.
