Art & Adventure Gallery opened in the Anjeong-ri area of Pyeongtaek in September 2023. Owner and curator, Janice Heo, who completed her Master’s degree in Arts Management, wanted to create a local gallery. She felt the Pyeongtaek area lacked a dedicated space for people to enjoy art.
“Pyeongtaek has such a diverse community, with people from various cultures, many of whom have a keen interest in Korean art and culture. With this in mind, I decided to establish Art & Adventure in Anjeong-ri, creating a cultural hub where those passionate about art can gather and enjoy a vibrant artistic experience,” says Heo.
The gallery has hosted ten exhibitions so far, with half featuring Korean artists and the other half showcasing international talent. Future plans include presenting one or two exhibitions a month, with each typically running for about two weeks.
Each exhibition features an opening reception where you can meet the artist or artists involved, enjoy delicious food, and view the beautiful artwork. It is also a great place to connect with others who love and appreciate art.
Heo explains, “We embarked on this journey with a vision to create a dynamic space for dialogue and creativity, celebrating the beauty of Korea's unique culture and art on both a domestic and international stage. Our mission is to cultivate a thriving art community by providing a platform for meaningful exchanges between artists and art enthusiasts. We aspire to connect people through the power of art, fostering deeper understanding and collaboration. Looking ahead, we plan to showcase a diverse range of artworks, with the hope that these connections will not only enrich our community but also contribute to its growth and vibrancy.”
Art & Adventure Gallery is located across from Brownstone Apartments and near Eldora Restaurant. There is parking behind the building. To view an exhibition, contact Janice Heo via Instagram (@jnc015) or call 070-8018-9588. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 13:00 to 18:00.
In addition to art exhibitions, the gallery holds art classes and plans gallery and museum trips. There is a public Facebook group called Art & Adventure (https://www.facebook.com/groups/800312001835617) where you can find information about upcoming shows, classes, and trips.
