Navigating South Korea’s Alien Registration Card: A Quick Guide

Foreigners planning to stay in South Korea for over 90 days need to secure a Residence Card, known as the Alien Registration Card (ARC). Here’s a streamlined guide to help you through the process:

What is the Alien Registration Card?
The ARC is a crucial document for long-term foreign residents in South Korea. It features your foreign identification number, name, nationality, visa type, stay duration, and address.

Why is it Necessary?
The ARC is required for opening bank accounts, signing rental agreements and accessing healthcare. It’s essential for legal residency beyond 90 days.

How to Obtain the ARC:
1. Book an Appointment: Use the HiKorea website (hikorea.go.kr), best accessed via Internet Explorer. Select your local immigration office and appointment date.
2. Complete the Application Form: Fill out the form in English or Chinese on the site. Prepare your passport, a recent photo, and KRW 30,000 for the processing fee. Additional documents may be needed depending on your visa type.
3. Visit the Immigration Office: Attend your appointment with the required documents. Pay the fee using the on-site ATM. For home delivery of your ARC, add KRW 3,000 to the fee.
4. Receive Your ARC: If you opted for home delivery, expect your card within 3-5 weeks. Otherwise, you’ll be notified when it’s ready for pickup at the office.

For more details or to confirm required documents, contact the Immigration Contact Center at 1345.

The ARC is vital for a seamless stay in South Korea. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth process.
