Anjeong Rodeo Street is a vibrant clash of cultures located in Pyeongtaek, right across from the Walk-in Gate of Camp Humphreys. Known to many American soldiers as "The Ville," it is easily accessible from the base and is especially popular on weekend nights. The street is lined with international restaurants, shops, currency exchange stores, bars, and lounges—offering an experience you wouldn't typically find on regular streets in Korea.
The United States is often referred to as a melting pot where cultures from around the world converge. Anjeong Rodeo Street is a mini melting pot, offering a similar experience on a smaller scale. While this list is not exhaustive, here are some of the countries represented by the foods available on this street, based on my personal experience:
- South Korea
- USA
- Italy
- Mexico
- Philippines
- Turkey
- China
- Japan
- Vietnam
- India
- Greece
- South Africa
- Brazil
- And more!
Apologies if I missed any countries, but the point is that you can find a wonderfully diverse array of food options at The Ville. Additionally, there are unique stores uncommon in Korea, such as those selling American sports jerseys, English-speaking churches, American antiques, and themed bars and lounges.
Another highlight of Anjeong Rodeo Street is the Anjeong-ri Art Center and Square. The Art Center regularly features exhibitions of local art and paintings. It also has a cozy book café where you can relax, read books for free, and enjoy a quiet moment. Adjacent to the center, the Art Square features a large grass field with a stage, making it a hub for festivals, concerts, and other community events.
So, if you haven’t already, make sure to visit Anjeong Rodeo Street or The Ville. Treat yourself to a kebab, banh mi, or lechon, and pair it with a refreshing mango lassi or some Turkish ice cream!
