The Pyeongtaek International Exchange Foundation (PIEF) showcased Korean culture at the 2024 Ehime-Matsuyama Industrial Festival, held on November 24 in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.
This renowned annual event, one of Matsuyama’s most prominent festivals, features a blend of industrial exhibits, cultural performances, and traditional experiences, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
At the festival, Pyeongtaek’s Nongak performance group mesmerized the audience with a dynamic showcase of Korea’s traditional farmers’ music. Their vibrant performance offered a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Korea, leaving a lasting impression on Japanese attendees.
The event’s grand finale held special significance, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the sister-city partnership between Pyeongtaek and Matsuyama. The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative scroll, followed by a Daedong Nori—a traditional Korean group dance that invited both performers and spectators to join hands in a spirited circle, embodying unity and joy.
In addition to their festival performance, the Nongak group also entertained visitors at Fuji Grand Matsuyama, the city’s largest shopping mall. Their lively performance drew an enthusiastic response from the local audience, further strengthening cultural ties.
Through such efforts, PIEF continues its mission of promoting Pyeongtaek’s rich cultural legacy on the global stage, fostering deeper connections and mutual appreciation between communities.
