Pyeongtaek City has officially begun preparations for the construction of a public postnatal care center in Songdam-ri, Anjung-eup. By utilizing an existing structure, the city aims to reduce overall costs and shorten the construction timeline, allowing quicker access to essential postnatal care services for residents.
The city plans to complete the design process by the second half of 2025 and begin remodeling in early 2026. The renovated facility will include recovery rooms for mothers, newborn care rooms, and spaces for specialized programs. A qualified and experienced operator will be selected during the construction period. Following a period of pilot operation in the latter half of 2026, the center is scheduled to officially open in December of the same year.
The new public postnatal care center aims to offer safe, accessible, and high-quality services to all citizens. To ensure that the facility rivals private centers in terms of service and comfort, a panel of private-sector experts will participate in the planning process. Their insights from real-world postnatal care environments will be reflected in the design and layout of the center, creating a welcoming and supportive space for both mothers and babies.
Further updates, including the pilot operation and opening schedules, will be announced through Pyeongtaek City’s official channels. As the city continues its efforts to become more birth-friendly, this initiative is being closely watched as a potential model for successful public care services in Korea.
