Korea Expands “Culture Day” to Every Wednesday Starting in April

Starting April 1, 2026, Culture Day in Korea will take place every Wednesday, rather than just once a month. This change aims to make cultural activities, such as visiting museums, attending performances, and exploring exhibitions, part of everyone’s weekly routine.

Originally launched in 2014, Culture Day has helped boost public access to culture nationwide. With participation now exceeding 66%, the government is expanding the program and partnering with major cultural and economic organizations to broaden its benefits.

Every Wednesday, participating institutions will offer:
Discounted or free entry to exhibitions and shows
Extended hours at museums and libraries
Special programs such as curator talks and workshops
Local cultural events hosted by cities and regions

A new Digital Culture Day will also be introduced, offering 50% discounts on e-book rentals and weekly online cultural content.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism states that this plan marks a shift from a once-a-month “event” to a lifestyle in which culture becomes a regular and accessible part of the week for everyone.
