Emergency calls for foreigners in Korea

One of the most important things you must keep in mind when you are abroad is emergency numbers of the local country. In America, it is 911 but be aware that it is 119 in Korea to call an ambulance or a fire engine. Try not to get confused. When you suddenly fall ill, run into danger, or when a fire breaks out, call 119 and your problem will be quickly solved.

When you want to call the police, dial 112. Korea is known to have good public security, but you never know what can happen in life. Remember the number 112 by all means!

At restaurants and coffee shops, Korean people often leave their belongings and cell phones on the table when going to a toilet or leaving the place for a short while. Thus, in Korea, people rarely pick somebody’s pocket, steal something or use violence. In general, you can feel at ease in this aspect. However, it is always good to prepare for any possible incidents, so keep the two numbers 119 and 112 in mind! :-)

These days, it is important to take good care of your health due to the risk of COVID-19. When you find yourself with some suspected symptoms of COVID-19 such as headache, chill or cough, call 1339, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since 1339 is a hotline phone number, it may be difficult to be immediately connected. In this case, please call Pyeongtaek Health Center (031-8024-5000).
