Koreans have enjoyed bibimbap since ancient times. Bibimbap is a bowl of rice mixed with various namul (seasoned herbs), veggies, and sauce, an everyday dish for Koreans. Most Koreans accompany various banchan, or side dishes, with rice for their meals. Sometimes, they mix these banchan with rice to make bibimbap. It's also a popular choice among foreigners. Because it has a lot of vegetables in it, bibimbap is widely known as a healthy dish. It's one of the favorite choices for foreign celebrities who visit Korea.
Many of you may have tried this as it's a well-known traditional dish. It might seem complicated when you try it for the first time. Let us guide you through the process. In a bowl, add rice and vegetables of your choice, such as bean sprouts, bracken ferns, spinach, stir-fried zucchini, and carrots. If you're at a restaurant, the bowl already comes with all the veggies.
Top it off with a spoonful of sesame oil and gochujang (Korean chili paste), and a fried egg. Mix all the ingredients with a spoon. As gochujang may be spicy, make sure to add a little bit at a time. When you mix the rice, it tastes better to toss the ingredients quickly and lightly with a spoon. Once you're done, eat spoonfuls of it with other banchan on the table.
Enjoy tasty bibimbap, a dish made of rice, gochujang, and various Korean banchan.
