In Korea, you can find buildings with a sign that say “PC Bang.” PC Bang (literally translates to PC room, but is also known as Korean internet cafes) is a space you can play games on computers. Koreans play games, work, do homework, and hang out with friends at a PC bang.
We visited a PC bang near Songtan called Shelter PC Bang. To use PC bang, you need to first choose the duration of stay and payment method at a self-service kiosk.
The cost is in increments of 1,000 won, and here at Shelter PC Bang, it costs 1,000 won for 40 minutes.
Most Korean PC bangs are equipped with fast-speed internet and the latest devices for your convenient online and gaming experience. They also provide comfortable chairs and high-performance keyboards that flash colorful lights through the letters.
One of the unique characteristics of Korean PC bangs are that they sell a wide selection of food items. Ordering food at a PC bang is a truly unique experience. You can find not just snacks but a whole variety of filling meals. Many customers are now visiting more for food than gaming.
On the monitor, it will show a food icon or the word “음식주문 (order food).” Click the button to pop up a menu with pictures of food. Click what you want to order, select the number of items and payment method, then click “주문하기 (order).” The staff will cook and bring the food to your seat. You can pay when you are served, either by credit card or cash.
They have light snacks and meals such as deopbap (rice with toppings). The most popular item is ramyeon (instant noodles)! As most PC bangs are open 24 hours, you can visit anytime you are available! Please note that, adolescents under the age of 19 can only stay until 10:00 pm.
