As the summer heat sets in, Pyeongtaek City (Mayor Jeong Jang-seon) announced on June 12 that its urban park water playgrounds will officially open for the season starting June 14, offering a fun and safe environment for children to cool off.
This year, the city has expanded its offerings by adding two new water playgrounds: one newly built at Namsan Park in Paengseong, and another soon to be completed at Pyeongtaek Seokjeong Park. With these additions, a total of 15 water playgrounds will be available for use.
In addition, the city has also extended the daily operating hours. Water playgrounds will now open an hour earlier, running from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, in five 45-minute sessions with 15-minute breaks in between. All facilities will be closed on Mondays for maintenance and cleaning, and operations may be adjusted based on weather and on-site conditions.
To ensure safety and hygiene, the city will station safety personnel at each water playground, replace water daily, conduct water quality tests every two weeks, and perform routine facility inspections.
An official from the Parks Department stated, “We will do our best to maintain hygiene and prevent accidents so that children can enjoy the water playgrounds safely,” and urged families to follow all facility rules and safety guidelines.
