Prevent Fall Pollen Allergies!

It is the beginning of September and the fall is just around the corner! During the fall, the daily temperature fluctuates very much and the air becomes dry. Thus, people become more vulnerable to various allergies. From late August to October, the concentration of pollen increases and causes people to suffer from pollen allergies.

Types of plants that cause allergic reactions in the fall include Japanese hop, mugwort, ragweed, and chrysanthemum. You should be extra precautious with these plants because they can grow in everywhere including mountains, vacant lots, roadsides, riversides, etc.

Common symptoms of pollen allergies are rhinitis, conjunctivitis, dermatitis, etc. Rhinitis comes with symptoms like runny nose, nasal congestion, and sneezing. Conjunctivitis is accompanied by bloodshot eyes or eye mucus and dermatitis can cause itchness and rashes. In severe cases, you may experience breathing difficulties and coughing.

Then, how can you prevent pollen allergies? First, it is a good idea to avoid outdoor activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., when pollen suspends in the air the most. Wearing a mask and glasses during outdoor activities can also be helpful. When returning home, you should dust off your clothes and take a shower immediately. On days with a lot of pollen in the air, don’t dry your laundry or blankets outdoors, and close the windows during the daytime! Lastly, dehydration can weaken the immune system so it is important to drink plenty of water.

Prevent allergic reactions against pollen in the fall and spend a safe and healthy fall season!
