Have you ever tried ‘Ganjang Gejang’ before? Ganjang Gejang is one of the most authentic Korean dishes that is made of fresh raw crabs marinated in soy sauce. Among Koreans, ganjang gejang is called as ‘bapdodook(rice thief)’ because it makes you devour your rice within a second.
Today’s featured restaurant is Taepyeong-Goong, a famous restaurant that was nominated as the top 3 ganjang gejang restaurant in Pyeongtaek. Taepyeong-Goong’s most famous menus are ganjang gejang and kkotgae-tang(spicy blue crab stew). If you are up for a challenge, try ganjang gejang, but if you are a bit scared to try raw crabs, go for kkotgae-tang!
When you order the ganjang gejang, you will first be served with side dishes and a bowl of seaweed soup. Use your hands to press crab shells for crab meats and mix them with rice. A small portion of spicy marinated crab will also be served as a side dish! The spicy marinated crab has a different flavor from the soy sauce, but many people enjoy the spicy one as well because of the great balance of spicy and sweet flavors. Once you are done with the marinated crab, you should to add some rice into the shell and mix it with crab’s innards and remaining soy sauce!
Taepyeong-Goong is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and it accepts last orders at 8 p.m. Please note that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. It is recommended to drive to this restaurant as it is difficult to reach by using a public transportation.
