Learn How to Prevent Fires on Firefighting Day

November 9 is the Firefighting Day in Korea. It is designated to raise awareness about the danger of fire and spread knowledge of fire precautions. As today is the Firefighting Day, here are some fire precautions you should follow at homes, apartments, cars, etc.

First, we would like to introduce you some preventive measures that should be followed at home. The most common cause of house fire in Korea is faulty wiring, and playing with fire, arson, and gas leak are followed next. In order to prevent fires caused by faulty wiring, you should properly arrange the wires so that the electricity does not spark between wires. Furthermore, to prevent playing with fire, you should never leave candle lighter or match on the places where children can reach. You should also keep a fire extinguisher at home and make sure to understand how to use it.

The second preventive measure can be applied to apartment residents. You should check and see whether the balcony has an emergency exit or emergency partition walls that connect to the neighbor’s unit. Also, always make sure to remove any product or package that obstructs hallways. In high-rise apartments, it is highly likely that smoke can quickly spread through the front door. Thus, find a safe area that block the penetration of fire smoke. A small room that can successfully shut off the smoke is a good option.

Most of the vehicle fires are caused by electrical short circuits or sparks from peeled sheaths. That’s why it is highly recommended to regularly check the car from mechanics, especially when the car is old. Not only that, wires, fuel, and ignition devices should also be checked regularly.

Make a habit of regularly checking and following fire precautions for your own safety!
