The demand for electricity soars during the summer largely due to increased use of air conditioners and fans in dealing with a hot weather. As global warming continues to be a major problem around the world, we need to take actions to protect our planet earth. Hence, we’d like to discuss four habits to protect the earth during the summer.
1. Increase cooling temperature
If you set the temperature of an air conditioner low at home or work, you end up consuming more energy. Thus, it is recommended to set the temperature between 78.8℉(26℃) and 82.4℉(28℃), a proper indoor temperature during the summer. It is also a good idea to use a fan in addition to an air conditioner when in a warmer setting.
2. Ride a bike or walk for a short distance
Driving leads to more greenhouse gas emissions and makes the earth even hotter. If you’re traveling a short distance, it is better to ride a bike or take a walk rather than driving. Public transportation (bus, subway, etc.) are great options too!
3. Carry a tumbler when going out
It is good for your health to drink water and hydrate often during the summer. Furthermore, reducing the use of disposables also helps the earth. In line with this effort, you can take a tumbler with you rather than buying water or drinks outside (or you can ask for your drink in your tumbler). Let’s make a habit of using less disposable items such as plastic bottles and cans.
4. Wear cool clothes and use less air conditioning
Let’s make a habit of wearing airy clothes or clothes made with cooling materials. Using less air conditioners can also help!
Today, we looked at four good habits to protect the earth during the summer. We hope you have a cool and healthy summer!
