Pyeongtaek is probably most known for the American Army base, Camp Humphreys. And although most citizens cannot enter the base without a certain pass, you are still able to experience the American “feel” when you enter “The Ville”.

“The Ville” is the term many Americans who work or live on base use to reference the area in front of the Walk-In Gate, also known as Pedestrian Gate. Although inhabited by mostly Koreans, the native people have adapted their businesses and lifestyle to almost “cater” to the American soldiers, who are their main visitors and customers. And combining the iconic South Korean cafe experience with the American atmosphere, came the immersion of Cafe Hangout. Just like its name suggests, Cafe Hangout is the perfect place to hang out! Filled with warm delicious homemade cookies and cakes, as well as unique drinks, Cafe Hangout also has a shelf full of board games, card games, a street fighter gaming machine, and other sources of entertainment to have a fun time by yourself or with some friends!

But if it is your first time in The Ville or the cafe itself and you have any questions for the staff, do not be intimidated! As many soldiers come in and out of the cafe, you will find that the staff is fluent in English!

So you can order in English and feel comfortable knowing that you are being understood, while getting exactly what you ordered. There are many hidden gems in The Ville to explore, so take some time and hang out at Cafe Hangout!
