Pyeongtaek International Exchange Foundation sends local artists to Okinawa to perform.

On November 26, the Pyeongtaek International Exchange Foundation successfully participated in the 2023 Okinawa International Carnival held in Okinawa, Japan by sending local artists.

The performance at the Okinawa International Carnival was organized as part of a project to expand human networks overseas through cooperation with the Pyeongtaek Minyo (Folk Song) Conservation Society and the Okinawa City International Exchange Association.

At the performance, 12 members of the Pyeongtaek Minyo Conservation Society wore traditional costumes and played kkwaengari and jing (gongs), janggu, and drums to liven up the carnival.

After marching in the parade alongside other arts organizations, the group took to the stage to perform colorful traditional fan dances and samulnori, as well as breathtaking burna-nori and stilt walks, which drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.

One audience member commented, "It was meaningful to see and hear Korean traditional arts performances up close, and I am grateful that they traveled from far away to show us such a wonderful performance.“

An official from the Pyeongtaek International Exchange Foundation said, "We hope that the citizens from Okinawa enjoyed Pyeongtaek's traditional culture through this event, and we will continue to take the lead in promoting Pyeongtaek's excellent culture overseas."
