Coffee shops and desserts go hand in hand in Korea. You’ll typically find salted bread, cookies or macarons, cheesecake, and scones in almost any café. However, when it comes to desserts in Pyeongtaek, Prefer in Forest offers the largest and best array of options. Not only are their menu items Instagram-worthy, but they also taste as good as they look.
In their specialty dessert case, you’ll find mini fresh fruit cakes in flavors like muscat grape, mango, pina colada, and fig. They also have creative takes on tiramisu, including mango tiramisu, Oreo tiramisu, and injeolmi tiramisu—a popular twist featuring Korean rice cake. Blueberry, muscat grape, and mango fresh fruit tarts are available year-round, along with slices of cheesecake and beautiful whole cakes to go. The mini carrot cake and chocolate mousse are family favorites and pair well together.
During the summer, you’ll also find several flavors of bingsu. This past summer, they featured strawberry, apple mango, and pat bingsu. The portions are large, so a family of four could easily share one to cool off on a hot summer evening.
In addition to their refrigerated specialty desserts, Prefer in Forest offers trendy pastries like the popular crookie (a cookie croissant filled with chocolate), a pain au brownie (a flaky croissant filled with a fudgy brownie piece), and this summer’s corn cream castella—a rolled castella cake filled and topped with sweet corn cream.
Their menu changes frequently, but classic favorites like lemon madeleines, mini Earl Grey pound cakes, green tea scones, and donkey-shaped chocolate and shortbread cookie packs are always available. They also serve kid-sized Häagen-Dazs ice cream cups, which is a mom-approved option!
With two floors of indoor seating, a rooftop deck, an outdoor lawn, and covered seating, there’s space for everyone, and the entire café is kid-friendly. If you’re stopping in for a bite, be sure to check out the art and sculptures decorating the café, as well as the gallery in the basement. The gallery changes frequently, but you can stay up to date by following their Instagram @Prefer_in_Forest.
With so many dessert options, there’s sure to be a treat to satisfy any sweet tooth! Prefer in Forest is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and there’s a large parking lot behind the café. On weekdays, they start getting busy by 10 a.m., and on weekend afternoons, parking can be scarce. A tip from a pro: park at the Buraksan Culture Park parking lot and take the five-minute walk up the hill—you’ll feel less guilty about ordering several of their delicious treats!
