Rainy Season Ends, Scorching Summer Heat Begins

The rainy season has officially ended, marking the start of intense summer heat across Korea. As temperatures continue to rise, weather authorities are urging the public to take extra precautions against heat-related illnesses.

With the monsoon ending earlier than expected, the sudden shift to hot and humid weather is catching many people off guard.

With the monsoon front retreating, most regions are now experiencing hot and humid weather. Daytime temperatures are soaring above 30°C, and the high humidity is pushing the perceived temperature even higher. Vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly are especially advised to stay cool and hydrated.

Officials recommend drinking plenty of water, minimizing outdoor activities during peak hours, and keeping indoor environments cool but not overly cold to avoid thermal shock. Local governments have opened cooling centers and are operating heat relief facilities such as mist sprays and shaded rest areas in public spaces.

Experts warn that while the rainy season has passed, now is the time to stay alert and protect oneself from the dangers of extreme heat.
