What to Do If Your Wages or Severance Pay Are Delayed

When workers face delayed wages or severance pay, it can be stressful and uncertain. However, there are official procedures in place to help employees secure what they are owed.

The first step is to file a petition with the local Labor Office within three years of the delayed payment. Once a petition is submitted, a hearing will be held at the Labor Office to confirm the amount of unpaid wages.

If the employer still fails to pay, workers may apply for wage claim insurance, which can provide up to 4 million won in support. In cases where the amount owed exceeds this limit, employees can also seek assistance through a civil trial or apply to the Small Wage Guarantee Fund, which supports claims up to 10 million won.
