Following his victory in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections, Pyeongtaek Mayor-elect Choi Wonyong has outlined a vision focused on improving residents' daily lives while guiding the city through its next stage of growth.
Speaking after the election, Choi described the result as a mandate for practical leadership rather than a personal achievement. He said his administration would prioritize policies that translate the city's economic and industrial expansion into tangible benefits for local residents.
The mayor-elect emphasized the importance of unity after the election, pledging to represent all citizens regardless of political preference. He also expressed appreciation to his opponent, Cha Hwayeol, and stated that diverse voices from across the community would be reflected in future policymaking.
Drawing from his previous experience in city government, Choi said he understands both the opportunities and challenges facing Pyeongtaek. He noted that residents expect visible improvements in transportation, public services, and quality of life as the city continues to expand.
Among his key initiatives is the development of a "30-minute living zone," designed to make commuting and access to essential services more convenient through transportation upgrades and improved local infrastructure.
Economic development will also be a major focus. Choi plans to strengthen Pyeongtaek's position in the semiconductor industry while encouraging job creation and supporting small businesses and traditional markets.
In the areas of education and social welfare, he pledged to expand support for families, young adults, and senior citizens, with the goal of creating a city that attracts new residents and provides a higher standard of living for all generations.
