Hanbok refers to traditional Korean clothing that Korean people wear on holidays or special occasions. It is known for its graceful lines and curves.
Women’s hanbok consists of a jeogori (short top) and voluminous, chima (long skirt). Men’s hanbok pants have the front and back that are similar and difficult to distinguish, but they’re different if you examine them closely. The side where the inner piece is larger should be on you right, and the smaller piece should be on your left. The sash for the waist wraps around to your left, and you can also put on outerwear like jokki or durumagi.
Hanbok is well ventilated and its ample size comfortably embraces the whole body. It’s also easy to put on and take off. Chima, jeogori, and baji (pants) can be flattened and folded, which don’t take up much space. Today, there are wider varieties of hanbok. The gaeryang(comtemporary) hanbok, which can be conveniently worn daily aside from special occasions, is also popular among the younger generation.
Many tourist attractions also offer hanbok rentals for various activities. In Insa-dong, you can take a stroll around palaces dressed in hanbok. Try on hanbok and take a picture of yourself! Now that’s a one-of-a-kind experience.
