Enjoy Affordable Seafood at Sokcho Sanghoe(속초상회)

Koreans love having seafood as side dishes to accompany their rice, such as gejang (marinated crabs) and saengseonjorim (braised fish). Ganjanggejang-간장게장 (soy-marinated crabs) is particularly beloved, even called “rice thief” because it goes so well with rice and makes a whole bowl disappear in seconds. Today, we’ll introduce Sokcho Sanghoe that specializes in soy-marinated crab and kodarijorim (braised pollack).

The two are their most popular menu items. To make kodarijorim, half-dried pollack is cut into pieces, and spicy marinade is added to boil with radish and potatoes. There are two types of crab marinades. Ganjanggejang is made by marinating blue crabs in soy sauce for a few days. On the other hand, yangnyeomgejang-양념게장 is marinated in a spicy sauce that includes red pepper powder and sugar.

They serve free side dishes such as kimchi, sausages, and steamed bean sprouts with every order. Sold as one-serving set meals, kodarijorim is 10,000 won and ganjanggejang is 15,000 won. It’s even more delicious to eat ganjanggejang with some gim (dried laver). Another perk provided here is extra bowls of rice at no additional charge. It’s really delicious when you mix rice with crab shell.

They also have a separate children’s menu. Kids can enjoy their favorite dishes like hamburger steak and jjajangbap (black bean sauce over rice) at affordable prices. You can order shrimp ramyeon and crab ramyeon as well, and if spicy food isn’t your cup of tea, they have the options of level 1 and 2 that taste much milder.
