Hanjeongsik: Korean-style Full Course Meal

If you want to try all kinds of Korean dish at once, we recommend going to a hanjeongsik (Korean full-course meal) restaurant. Goryeojeong(고려정) in Pyeongtaek offers a whole array of courses. Their grilled marinated beef ribs and special jeongsik (set-meal) courses are the customer favorites. During lunch hours (11:30–14:00), you can enjoy lunch specials that include bulgogi. The lunch special is 15,000 won, the grilled marinated beef ribs are 25,000 won, and the special jeongsik is 35,000 won, all per person.

Now, let’s go over each dish on the special jeongsik course.(특정식 한상)

Special jeongsik includes deulkkaetang (perilla soup), sea abalone, yukhoe (beef tartare), jjukkumi (webfoot octopus), tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles). Hongeo (fermented skate) is often eaten as part of samhap combination rather than by itself due to a strong flavor and aroma. Samhap (combination of three) means eating it with steamed pork, wrapped together in kimchi. Remember that hongeo is quite a challenge even for many Koreans because of the distinct smell and texture.

After the main entrées, they serve rice cooked in stone pot with banchan, or side dishes, toward the end of the course. When you are done eating rice, it is recommended to finish with sungnyung, prepared by pouring hot water over seared rice on the bottom of the stone pot. It’s very nourishing!

Desserts are served, wrapping up the full course. They bring hangwa, a type of traditional Korean confection. Koreans often eat these on holidays. Lastly, take a bite of these with omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) to finish your meal.

How about some traditional Korean cuisine at Goryeojeong? The business hours are 11:30 to 21:00 every day, but they have a break time between 15:00 and 17:00.  Also, a spacious parking lot is provided for your convenience.
