When the weather gets cold, Koreans love to eat kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup). Kalguksu is made by rolling flour dough to make thin sheets, slicing them with a knife, and boiling the noodles in hot soup. Today, we are introducing Songdam Kalguksu.

At this restaurant, you can enjoy kalguksu(칼국수) and shabu shabu(샤브샤브) together. The Korean-style shabu shabu is a dish containing beef and various vegetables, such as mushrooms, water parsley, and napa cabbage. Songdam Kalguksu’s “shabu kalguksu” consists of beef, mushrooms, and an assortment of veggies, kalguksu noddle, and barley rice. When eating the small bowl of barley rice served before the noodles, we recommend tossing it with yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) and gochujang (red pepper paste).

Once the soup starts to boil, add the meat and eat with vegetables when fully cooked. When you are finished with the meat, add noodles at the end. Shabu kalguksu is even better with kimchi. Shabu kalguksu is 9,000 won and can be ordered starting from two or more servings.

Add extra 1,000 won if you want to make your kalguksu more spicy.

At Songdam, you can also order patkalguksu, which is kalguksu with red beans that Koreans love to eat in winter. This mild-tasting dish is often sprinkled with salt or sugar, depending on preference. The price is 9,000 won.

For shabu kalguksu, extra toppings can be ordered at 6,000 won for vegetables, 8,000 won for meat, and 12,000 won for an assortment (beef, mushrooms, water parsley, and etc.). Songdam Kalguksu is open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day.
