Unique Hands on ceramic experience: Dobi Pottery and Cafe [PIEF Foreign Reporter]

During a cold or rainy day sometimes you just get that itch to go out and do something but, you don’t want to go too far or end up sitting around watching a movie or eating something. Then it hit me, why not be creative and make something. I heard about this pottery place where you would have the whole experience from molding the clay to paining your creation. Christmas is coming up soon and what would be greater then make personalized mugs for the whole family.

A great experience for all ages

We walk down into the basement of Brownstone Apartments and entered Dobi Pottery and Café. It is located right beside the 7/11 and the dry cleaners, just in front of Coco Salsa, a burger and taco joint. (Seriously it was so similar to In n- Out burger, yummmm)

The studio had shelves full of pottery; one side of the studio where you can paint pottery and create candles and on the other side of the studio is where you could have the whole experience molding the clay and creating whatever you wanted.

We decided we wanted to have the whole experience getting messy and went for the 1 day class for 30,000won per person and we were there for almost 4hrs. I have to say there wasn’t a dull moment as we were listening and singing to the music from the radio and creating what we attempt to make, such as mugs, jewelry case, and wind chime from my youngest daughter.

The teacher was very patient and helpful and even though she spoke little to no English, she could communicate effectively and we didn’t have a hard time to follow directions.

She would demonstrate the skill, then let us work on our crafts without having her hovering or lingering around us providing encouragement and help along the way.

Molding a Mug

Once completed, we left the pottery to fire, and was told to come back to pick up our pieces in a month. We all had such a great time. The kids were able to create their own designs and with the help of the teacher. We were all pleased with the final work we had done at the end of the day.

I definitely recommend this place and it is good for all ages, there were so many things to makeWe even decided to take part in the candle making class next.

I can’t wait to pick-up and see our beautiful creations. If they are as good as we are hoping, I might even take-up the 100,000won monthly class, 4 times a month, what a great deal.
