I had the pleasure of attending the Pyeongtaek Marshmallong Festival in Oseong-myeon recently. Hosted at the Pyeongtaek Agro-Ecological Park, this vibrant event was organized by the Pyeongtaek City Cultural Foundation.
On October 6, the Pyeongtaek Marshmallong Festival (ํํ๋ง์๋ฉ๋กฑ์ถ์ ) blossomed as a heartwarming community affair. Its allure is rooted in the imaginative use of "Konpo Silage" preserving rice straw in plastic for winter sustenance. This silage, resembling marshmallows, lends the festival its whimsical name. Envision this: a pioneering method safeguarding rice for Korean beef and cows, all from the awe-inspiring Pyeongtaek Plain. A true marvel, isn't it?
The festival featured enchanting performances of traditional Korean music, showcasing a medley of musical instruments and songs. Additionally, a promotional booth for Pyeongtaek's agricultural gems, including the renowned Super O’ning Rice, was in full swing. Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of products, including Pyeongtaek rice, pears, cucumbers, tomatoes, and zucchini. Delectable treats such as samples of Korean beef and local specialties were also available.
A plethora of engaging activities awaited attendees, ranging from kite flying to marshmallow drawing competitions, marshmallow rolling, spirited running races, and even crafting straw shoes and egg packages using straw grass.
This delightful experience was not only complimentary but also thoroughly entertaining. The festival was an unequivocal success, with this year's edition standing out as particularly awe-inspiring. The Pyeongtaek Marshmallong Festival proved to be a sensory delight, captivating both the visual and auditory senses.
