Pyeongtaek's Bee Plenty Farm offers children and adults the opportunity to learn about honey, make honey-based crafts, and to do hands-on exploration in the bee hives. Bee Plenty is located on the northwest side of Pyeongtaek and is approximately 30 minutes from Camp Humphreys. The sweet and passionate Beekeeper, Yoo Hey-Ra, teaches her classes in a cozy one-room cabin that comfortably fits up to six students. Hey-Ra has a long and connected history with bees and their honey. At the start of your visit, she will share how much bees have influenced the health of her family and she will share her personal mission to educate others on the positive impacts honey can have on health, skin, and the body's healing process. Then she will offer honey, pollen, and propolis tastings using her very own beehive's products. Depending on your interest and group size, the honey-based craft will be prepared for you and Hey-Ra will guide you through making a lovely and usable product.
In late November, my group of six friends spent almost two hours at Bee Plenty learning about bees plus making honey-based ice cream-shaped soap. The process to make the soap was easy and enjoyable - perfect for children (six years and older) and adults! The first step was to add a heated liquid soap base to cornstarch. We mixed the two items together to create a dough-like ball. Then we kneaded glycerin and honey into the ball. The instructor offered the option to add delightful scents and colorings to the ball. Once all the products were mixed together, we used an ice cream scoop to shape the soap. Each person was able to make six to seven ice cream scoops of soap. The ice cream scoops were packaged in a cute to-go container and laced with a Christmas ribbon. This class was 25,000w per person and paid at the end of the class. We all agreed to return in April to do a hands-on exploration into the bee hives and the amazing world of honey.
If you are interested in booking a craft class or an educational experience for children or adults, please contact the Beekeeper via Instagram (@ontaek2023). Hey-Ra has recently updated her Instagram name from what is featured on her business cards. Hey-Ra communicates in English and can cater to your group size, interest, etc. She is even willing to bring education classes and bees to your students! Honey, pollen, and other honey-based products are available for purchase from Bee Plenty.
