The Gyeonggi Arts Center, in collaboration with local art organizations, is hosting Gyeonggi Stage - Pure Arts to offer Gyeonggi residents more opportunities to experience live performances. 시선의 틈 (The Power within the Gaze), selected in the Korean Contemporary Dance category, will be featured this year. The performance, inspired by Michel Foucault’s Discipline and Punish, explores the psychological and physical effects of surveillance, questioning why we voluntarily accept control and presenting a vision of breaking free from it.
The dance company, founded by Ewha Womans University Korean Dance graduates and led by Nam Young Lee, blends traditional Korean dance with contemporary elements, challenging fixed perceptions of the art form. The company has received critical acclaim and multiple awards, including the 2010 PAF Choreographer Award and the 2020 PAF Excellence in Choreography Award.
