The Pyeongtaek Moonlight Festival, a cherished tradition marking the first full moon of the year, will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025. This event, held in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum, follows the lunar calendar and is deeply rooted in Korean heritage. According to tradition, writing one’s wishes on paper and burning them in a specially built "daljip" (moon house) as the full moon rises is believed to help dreams come true.
The festival will be held from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Maesang Village Moonlight Square. The highlight of the festival, the Moon House Burning Ceremony, will take place at 6:00 PM. Limited parking spaces are available in the village, where visitors are advised to follow the guidance of on-site staff at the village entrance.
The festival will offer various activities for families, including kite-making, writing wish papers, and traditional straw crafts. Visitors can also enjoy performances featuring local artists and community members, including magic shows, balloon art, and cultural programs. Moonlight Festival will serve traditional dishes such as five-grain rice (ogokbap), rice cake soup (tteokguk), fish cake soup (eomuk-tang), and roasted sweet potatoes (gun-goguma).
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to fully enjoy the festivities. As parking is limited, alternative transportation or carpooling is recommended. Join the 2025 Pyeongtaek Moonlight Festival and experience a night of tradition, culture, and heartfelt wishes under the first full moon of the year.
