In a move to promote smarter and more convenient recycling, Pyeongtaek City has installed unmanned transparent PET bottle collection machines across 41 locations, including community centers and libraries. This initiative encourages residents to actively participate in environmental conservation by making proper recycling easier and more rewarding.
The temporary trial period runs from June 1 to June 30, 2025, with the machines available daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., year-round
♻️ How It Works:
1. Enter your mobile phone number (QR code login will be available in the future).
2. Insert clean, transparent PET bottles (labels removed).
3. Earn 10 KRW in points for each bottle (limit: 30 bottles per person per day).
4. Points will be temporarily stored under your phone number and can later be converted into local currency via a mobile app currently under development.
Only transparent PET bottles between 300ml and 2L, emptied and with labels removed, can be accepted. Bottles such as milk or juice containers, crushed or labeled items, and other non-PET containers are not allowed.
This eco-friendly effort not only helps reduce plastic waste but also transforms used PET bottles into valuable resources. With plans to integrate the system into a local currency rewards program, residents have even more reasons to join in.
