Recently, many new omakase restaurants have been opening up in Korea. Omakase is a Japanese word meaning ‘leave it up to you.’ If you order Omakase, you are basically leaving up to the chef for making the best seasonal dishes, using the freshest ingredients. There is also an omakase restaurant in Pyeongtaek city where you can experience delicious sushi! The featured restaurant today is ‘Sushi Gimtaeu’ located near Pyeongtaek Station.
Reservations are required for Sushi Gimtaeu. Time slots for reservation are noon, 1:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for every day, and the capacity of the restaurant is up to six people at a time. Lunch costs 25,000 KRW and dinner costs 40,000 KRW. Additional sashimi order costs 20,000 KRW. There are three ways of making reservations. Once you arrive at the restaurant on your reservation time, you will be served with the appetizer first. Then, plates of sushi will be provided one after the other during the lunch and the dinner course. The menu varies depending on the season and market conditions, but the course is usually comprised of tuna belly sushi, shrimp sushi, squid sushi, salmon sushi, herring sushi, sea eel sushi, and scallop. If there is a menu that you can’t eat, just tell the chef in advance. The alternative menu will be prepared for you.
The restaurant is located in the alley, so it may be difficult to park. Also, seating is available only at designated times, so make sure to make a reservation before visiting.
