Are you ever tired of the sights and sounds of city life here in Pyeongtaek? Do you crave peace and tranquility away from large groups of people? Tucked away in the hills of Jinwi, lies the tranquil Mangisa Buddhist Temple where one can ho to escape the concrete jungle that is a large majority of Pyeongtaek and bask in the beauty of nature.

My family and I escaped to Mangisa Temple on a lazy Sunday afternoon looking for a peaceful place to have a picnic. A short, 15-minute drive from Osan Air Froce Base, the temple and surrounding forested hills provide a pleasant environment to relax. The temple is an active religious site, so it is important to be respectful of the people who live and worship there. Whether you are Buddhist or not, it is impossible to not feel at peace when walking n the temple grounds. The koi ponds, lush vegetable gardens, and vibrant flowers create a breathtaking landscape to walk through.

After walking the temple grounds, I highly suggest heading for the hills and taking a hike on one of the many trails surrounding Mangisa. Although the trails are not stroller-friendly, they are relatively easy and family-friendly. We discovered many interesting mushrooms along the way as well as an enormous Stag Beetle. Our most impressive find, however, was the swing we found in the forest. It not only provided endless amounts of fun, it also a great place for an Instagram-worthy photo.
